Here's the story of how PlaceMyHorse.com was conceived by Sarah Sheehy.
Not long ago, a client of hers acquired a horse who seemed calm and reliable at the time of purchase. Over time, the horse became increasingly difficult for the owner to handle and ride. At the point the horse became dangerous, the owner knew her horse would be impossible to sell or even give away; nor could she do so in good conscience, knowing that someone else would inherit problems too difficult for the average horse owner to manage.
Her options at this point were the auction, a rescue group, or slaughter. None of these fit with her sense of responsibility to her horse nor her goal of giving him a home for life. Sarah saw this horse not merely as dangerous, but as mishandled and misunderstood. Knowing that horses become unmanageable because of their experiences with people rather than their inherent nature, Sarah agreed to acquire her client’s horse, realizing that his fate would otherwise be grim. This horse now has the opportunity to lead a happy and useful life.
Although the dilemma faced by Sarah’s client is not an unusual story, exactly where these types of horses end up and the lives they must ultimately endure is not often talked about. Thus, Sarah has created a service for just such horses and people who sincerely want their charges to end up in the right hands and go on to live happy, peaceful and productive lives.
